DEM solar power plant –
Zlatoličje, segment 5

Containerised Power Conversion Infrastructure for Utility-Scale Solar Generation.

Location
Zlatoličje / Hajdina, Slovenia
Sector
Renewable Energy · Solar Power
Client
Dravske elektrarne Maribor (DEM)
NTR Role
Electrical Infrastructure & Containerised Power Conversion

NTR delivered the electrical and power-conversion infrastructure for Segment 5 of the Zlatoličje solar power plant, developed by Dravske elektrarne Maribor on the embankment of the Zlatoličje hydropower plant outflow canal. A defining feature of the project is its containerised central inverter solution integrating the transformer station and medium-voltage switchgear within a compact prefabricated unit.

01
The Challenge

The solar plant was deployed along a 905-metre section of an existing hydropower canal embankment, where terrain gradients exceed 30 degrees and construction had to be carried out in close proximity to a canal with water flows of up to 550 m³/s. The electrical infrastructure therefore had to support utility-scale solar generation while fitting within the physical and operational constraints of an existing energy-production site.

02
The Solution

The project uses a centralised power-conversion architecture built around a containerised central inverter with an integrated transformer station and medium-voltage switchgear. The configuration was selected to optimise installed cost per unit of capacity and support efficient connection of the solar plant to the electrical infrastructure. Communication interfaces connect the plant to DEM’s central control centre for operational supervision.

03
The Result

Segment 5 of the Zlatoličje solar power plant comprises 5,694 photovoltaic modules with a total installed capacity of 2.5 MWp and an expected annual generation of approximately 3,000 MWh. The project adds renewable generation capacity to an existing hydropower asset by using previously unutilised canal infrastructure and forms part of a wider planned solar development along the Zlatoličje and Formin hydropower canals.
