On May 6, 2025, we proudly took part in the ceremonial laying of the foundation stone for the new Arnes Data Center Maribor. The event was led by Prime Minister Dr. Robert Golob, together with Minister Dr. Igor Papič, and the Director of Arnes, Marko Bonač.
Within the project worth €150 million, NTR as lead partner in a consortium with Advant and Energovat is responsible for design, construction, implementation, and maintenance of the data center and its technological infrastructure. The center is expected to begin test operations in August 2026.
Arnes Data Center Maribor will be integrated into the EuroHPC pan-European AI Factory network and serve as a core infrastructure node for open science, high-performance computing, and national-scale AI workloads alongside AI factories from 12 other EU member states. In addition, the center will play a vital role in Slovenia national open science infrastructure.
Strategically located within the Dravske Elektrarne Maribor complex, the facility benefits from a direct feed to the nearby Mariborski Otok hydroelectric power plant, ensuring clean, high-availability power with minimal transmission loss. A rooftop photovoltaic system is also planned.
We are honored that our consortium was selected — not only as a testament to our technical capabilities but also as a recognition of the depth of Slovenian engineering and innovation. As pioneers of next-generation data center design in Slovenia, our track record includes advanced deployments for HPC and AI workloads, including the Vega supercomputer facility.
